This session will focus on critical steps that are necessary to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and manage residents who test positive for COVID-19. Attendees will gain insight for best practices for preparing for and responding to an outbreak based on guidance from CDC and CMS, as well as lessons learned from consulting with nursing facilities experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks.

Description

COVID-19 is rapidly spreading across the country and impacting long term care facilities. Facilities must take actions to limit the spread of COVID-19 among residents and staff. This session will focus on critical steps that are necessary to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and manage residents who test positive for COVID-19. Attendees will gain insight for best practices for preparing for and responding to an outbreak based on guidance from CDC and CMS, as well as lessons learned from consulting with nursing facilities experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks.

Objectives:

  • Understand steps that are necessary to minimize the spread of COVID-19
  • Identify steps to take for suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19
  • Understand CDC infection prevention guidance for long-term care facilities in regards to preventing and responding to COVID-19 outbreaks
  • Understand CMS guidance that long-term care facilities must follow in regards to preventing and responding to COVID-19 outbreaks
